The Green Valley in the Committee for Urban Development and Construction

On 2 November 2022, a “somewhat different” committee meeting took place in the castle church in Altlandsberg. The Committee for Urban Development and Building dealt with the consideration of the early participation of the authorities and the public on the preliminary draft of the 9th amendment to the land use plan (FNP). This FNP amendment essentially covers the area between the settlement edge of Altlandsberg West and the motorway and L33 bypass to the south and Mehrower Weg to the north. The “GREEN VALLEY”, which covers a total of 180 hectares, is being planned within this FNP amendment, where commercial and industrial settlements are to be established at the gates of the town on the motorway. The preliminary development plan for a first development phase of around 65 hectares is currently being drafted and will be presented to the public at the beginning of 2024.

This time, the Urban Development and Building Committee had also invited its colleagues from the Climate Committee and all local councils to discuss this important topic. The developer, GREEN VALLEY 1 GmbH, had prepared “information islands” where local politicians, knowledgeable residents and guests could find out about some of the future technologies that are to be used in the GREEN VALLEY. At the information islands on the topics:

  • Rooftop photovoltaics on commercial, industrial and logistics buildings and AGRI PV for generating solar power, explained by Dr Philip Sinn, LOGIC GREEN Energy
  • Compressed air storage for storing renewable energy and generating electricity, cooling and heat, demonstrated by GREEN Y, Peter Fritzen
  • Innovative and mobile systems for wind power generation using kite power (flying wind turbines), demonstrated by Christoph Drexler
  • Systemic water management concepts by storing and using rainwater as process water, supporting groundwater recharge through on-site infiltration and heat recovery from water storage tanks and wastewater, presented by Prof. Dr Sieker (Büro Sieker, Hoppegarten)
  • Presentation of the development status of the preliminary draft “1st development plan A 10 Energy and Innovation Park Altlandsberg” by the accompanying specialist planning office Stefan Bolck and FIRU, Mr Wehmann,

Companies and project planners were on hand to answer questions and interesting discussions ensued. Umut Ertan, one of the two GREEN VALLEY investors, began by drawing a line between commercial, industrial and logistics property development of the future under the challenges of climate change and the projects in Altlandsberg. All of this was brought to life in this special format of a committee meeting with concrete models and technologies. It was an interesting evening, at the end of which the resolutions to weigh up the 9th amendment to the FNP were unanimously adopted. Many thanks at this point to all the co-organisers of this informative event, which will be continued as part of the next public participation and residents’ meetings in 2024.
