New Year’s greetings – thoughts on the sustainability of commercial property

“The commercial and logistics property sector has major tasks ahead of it. We need to move towards sustainable construction,” explains Umut Ertan, founder and shareholder of Schweizer Kapital Global Impact Fund AG, the Realogis Group and the LOGIC GREEN Group. “For example, a new logistics property built today will only be climate-neutral after around 40 to 50 years. But there are ways to incorporate sustainable building materials that are just as stable and durable as conventional building materials right from the construction phase. However, these new building materials have a significantly lower CO2 footprint. With a very innovative start-up that we support support and that shows completely new solutions.”

When asked what industrial and logistics properties will look like in five years’ time, Umut Ertan says: “The logistics property of 2025 will be sustainable. It will be equipped with renewables that we don’t know today or that are not yet commercially available, but which will come onto the market in the next two to three years. In the future, logistics properties will not only consume electricity but will also produce electricity. We are investing in future technologies for the generation, storage and conversion of renewable energies in order to fulfil this requirement.”
